Effective Weight Loss Methods

  We all know that losing weight is good for our health, improving our energy and fitness levels as well as cutting down blood pressure, cholesterol and the risk of diabetes, heart disease and some forms of cancer.

Now that we know that losing weight is good what are the most effective weight loss methods?  Many people think going on a diet is an effective weight loss method but this simply isn’t the case as most diets are simply concerned with the short term goal of weight loss and when they are finished weight starts to be regained.  This often leads to misery and frustration and can cause people to stop trying to lose weight altogether.

The most effective weight loss method is to make a number of changes to your diet and lifestyle that will last a lifetime and make weight loss permanent.  To do this the first step is to concentrate on healthy eating and stop counting calories.  A healthy well balanced diet and the elimination of most of the unnecessary calories from your diet is a big step towards losing weight.

Some people find it useful to keep a food journal of everything they eat for two weeks.  This makes it easy to see what you are truly eating and makes it simple to identify where you can save calories.  The mid-morning muffin could be replaced with fruit or if you find that you drink lots of fizzy drinks try replacing them with water.

Exercise is important as well.  It is possible to lose weight through diet alone but it is much easier if you exercise regularly as well.  Exercise helps to burn off excess calories, improves strength and flexibility and gives the metabolism a boost.  A combination of light resistance training and cardio-vascular exercises such as aerobics, swimming or jogging are the best ways to improve your personal fitness level and boost the metabolism.
