Improving Self Esteem
Ann Landers once said, “Nobody gets to live life backward. Look ahead -- that is where your future lies.”
“For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin--real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”

Nothing is truer and nothing else says how important it is to look to the future more than this statement. We cannot change the past. We can only live in the present and plan for the future. As humans, we have the extraordinary ability to learn from our past and move forward in life as we grow and develop. Improving self esteem is one area of life where many people must overcome past trials and tribulations to reach their highest potential. Wallowing in self-pity is easy but stepping above the past and improving self esteem takes hard work, determination, and a commitment to goals.
Managing your weight also takes positive self esteem that helps you overcome the challenges along the way. When you feel good about yourself and what you have to offer to the world, you are better equipped to take control of every aspect of your life. High self esteem enables you to think positively and to seek solutions rather than problems. It gives you the ability to move forward confidently and assertively.
Removing obstacles from your pathway helps you take control of your life and begin living the life you desire. When you have higher self esteem and greater self control, you are able to visualize your future goals and attain those goals successfully. Weight management is an important aspect of life and self esteem helps you maintain your focus on healthier living and lifestyle management.
When it comes to improving self esteem for weight management, it starts with your conscious mind. You control how your conscious mind works and using your conscious mind to help change your subconscious mind leads to positive self-talk and positive imagery. Using your conscious mind to feed positive thoughts and ideas to your subconscious mind will also boost your self esteem.
Weight control is all about lifestyle modification and working towards goals for a healthier mind and body. The combination of positive self esteem and positive thinking, both consciously and subconsciously, are powerful resources when waging a new plan for lifestyle changes. Improving self esteem requires that you put the past behind you, focus on your successes, and ignore the rest.
Denis Waitley puts it succinctly when he says, “To establish true self esteem we must concentrate on our successes and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives.”
Believing in yourself improves self esteem and it gives you the motivation to tackle the challenges you face along life’s highway. Instead of seeing overwhelming, insurmountable obstacles, you will begin to see small speed bumps along your journey. As you realize more and more success through small steps, the speed bumps become unnoticeable and your life truly begins to change for the better.
Who would have thought that improving self esteem would help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight? The mind is a powerful resource in controlling your actions, decisions, and choices. Programming your mind with positive, encouraging thoughts is the best defense against everyday challenges in life.
Success comes through a series of small successes and repeated efforts toward your goal. Walking an extra 5 minutes, passing up a rich dessert, or managing meal portions are all small successes in your pursuit for lifestyle changes. When you recognize the small successes, you will become more confident in your ability to succeed – improving self esteem with every day that passes.
It is then, and only then, that you can face your days with confidence and a feeling of pride in your accomplishments. Don’t let another day slip by without rewarding yourself for what you have accomplished and watch your self esteem grow.
